    Event description:
As the new semester commences, both faculty members and students are faced with the challenge of how to navigate the potential disruptions that ChatGPT, an online artificial intelligence chatbot, may cause in higher education. Social media posts and think pieces have raised concerns regarding its ethicality, the threats it poses to authentic assessment, and the burdens it may induce on teachers. Some, on the other hand, are excited with the possibilities of this tool. But what do we do with ChatGPT? Dapat nga ba itong katakutan? Dedmahin? Bigyan ng chance?

In the spirit of building communities of practice and kick-starting a university-wide conversation on ChatGPT’s perils and promises, the Office for the Advancement of Teaching is holding, “AI ayayay! A conversation on Teaching and ChatGPT”, on February 13 (Monday), 9-11AM. The format will be an online roundtable discussion where a moderator will pose key questions to invited discussants and gather insights from the audience. The goal is to come up with a collective response to ChatGPT instead of leaving our faculty to deal with the matter individually. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

For questions and clarifications, please contact the Office for the Advancement of Teaching at ovcaa.oatdiliman@up.edu.ph (ATTN: Ms Kath Reyes).

We hope that you can join us in our sem-opener this year!

  • Call for Participants for the Pilot Run of TEC 2: Reflections on Graduate School Teaching

Call for Participants for the Pilot Run of TEC 2: Reflections on Graduate School Teaching

As part of our ongoing efforts to expand our Teaching Effectiveness Course (TEC) offerings, we would like to invite graduate faculty members to participate in the pilot run of TEC 2: Reflections on Graduate School Teaching. The course will run on November 28 (10:00-11:30 AM; 1:00-3:00 PM) and November 29 (9:00-10:30 AM), 2022 (3 hours max per session). The workshop will be conducted via Zoom.

This short course intends to provide a space for graduate faculty to reflect and potentially work on their teaching philosophy, course design, rapport-building strategies, and mentoring that are effective for a graduate course context. We would like to reiterate that this is a pilot run intended to improve future iterations of this workshop. We also hope that this will be a good opportunity for our graduate faculty to share their best practices and learn from each other, especially because most of our offerings so far focus on the onboarding of new (and mostly undergraduate) faculty.

For faculty members who have decided to commit to participate and finish the course, they can register through this link: bit.ly/TECGrad22 on or before 21 November 2022 (Monday). Due to limited slots, we can only accommodate 30 participants on a first-come-first-served basis.

The provisional program is attached. For questions and clarifications, please contact the Office for the Advancement of Teaching at ovcaa.oatdiliman@up.edu.ph (ATTN: Ms Beq Fucio).
