Teaching Effectiveness Course
Rationale and General Guidelines
The Teaching Effectiveness Course (TEC) is a five-day intensive training course on effective teaching. Holistic and learner-focused, the series of lectures and workshops are led by passionate educators representing the best in university instruction.
This course on the essentials of effective teaching begins with an understanding of learners, prior knowledge, motivation, and learning styles. It offers principles and strategies on creating learning experiences that promote mastery, enhance creative and integrative thinking, and enrich understanding. Participants also learn from each other in dealing with specific challenges and concerns.
Workshops include instructional plan development, test construction, and public speaking, among other important skill areas. The TEC concludes with a teaching demonstration by participants.
TEC is conducted twice a year, before every semester starts. The course is open to regular faculty, lecturers, teaching assistants, and teaching fellows. Priority is given to new faculty members but experienced faculty members are encouraged to join to be updated on teaching approaches. The course is free of charge but pre-registration is required due to the limited slots
